Class speech contest will start the beginning of Week 9 (Monday 28 March), so all need to be ready.Year 8 Speech Finals are in Week 11 (Thursday 14 April), this is for our top speech maker.
PB4L Possible Persuasive Speech Topics LI: to persuade the audience that:
-Students will only learn if there are rules
-Rules are not necessary for students to learn
- Students should make the major decisions about what and how they learn
- Well-behaved students should earn free periods
- Belonging to a House is an important part of school life
- The Government should provide laptops for 21st Century learning
- Students cannot be individuals while they are wearing a uniform
- Everything we need to know is on the Internet so why do we come to school?
- Intermediate-aged students are still too young to be responsible for their actions
- Intermediate-aged students do not need mobile phones
- Even though there are educational programmes about the environment, many students do not really care about the environment at all
- Intimidation happens all the time in life and students need to “harden up” and deal with it
- Bullying is the lowest form of communication between people and there can be devastating consequences
- Young people are influenced by what they see on t.v.
- Certain Play-station and computer games should be banned as they are having a harmful effect on young people
- There need to be stricter guidelines about the types of advertising on television
- Social networking websites such as Facebook, You Tube, Twitter have had a detrimental effect on young people
- Social networking websites such as Facebook, You Tube, Twitter are the communication tools of 2011 and beyond, so we should embrace them and teach young people to use them wisely
- There is no need to be independent when adults are always telling us what to do
- Because they are texting all the time, people do not know how to talk to each other properly

Speaking Voice -Is each word clear? (diction) -Can you hear well? (volume) -Does the expression vary? (tune) -Effective pausing? (pace) -Are the main ideas emphasised?
Subject -Is the subject well-known? -Can you hear the Hamburger method? -Is the speech delivered in the speaker’s own words? -Are quotes used? -Is the speech persuasive?
Posture -Does the speaker appear relaxed yet confident? -Is there eye contact? -Interesting, alive face? -Does the speaker believe what he/she is telling you?
Appeal -Are you interested? -Did you learn something? -Did it amuse or entertain you? ( not necessary in a serious topic) -Were you persuaded?
